Abstract The lip-smack is a communicative sound object that has received very little research attention, with most work examining their occurrence in nonhuman primate interaction. current paper aims to dissect the social potential of lip-smacks human analysis examines corpus 391 particles produced by English-speaking parents while feeding infants. A multimodal interaction details main features: (1) rhythmical production series, (2) facial-embodied aspects, and (3) temporal organisation. Lip-smacks occurred prosodically grouped chains mostly 3 or 5 particles, accompanying facial expressions, were co-ordinated infants’ chewing. They highlight mechanics chewing framing eating as pleasant interactional event. contributes not only distinctly functions hitherto ignored linguistics but also on exchanges early childhood connection sociality primates.
